Nyood: Anything but Neutral

In Winnipeg when a new club opens up most of the time the only thing new is the name. The tendency is to close for a few months then have a grand opening party for the new "hot spot" to go. Everyone gets all dressed up and waits in line only to find it is the exact same scene it always was.

Same place. Same decor. Same people. And most of the time same staff.

I found that this was just a Winnipeg phenomenon.

In Toronto the opening of a club is the real deal.

New place. New decor. New people.

Nyood restaurant on Queen West opened a nightclub upstairs this weekend. In keeping with the theme of the restaurant the decor was beautiful, the staff was beautiful and the clientele was beautiful.

If you are looking for a place to go next weekend I highly suggest it. Smaller than your average club but sometimes great things come in small packages.

Birds of a feather...

Birds of a feather flock together. This saying could not be more true. Saturday night I attended a 35th birthday party for a friend of mine. Mark, like myself is originally from Winnipeg. We both moved here a little over 2 years ago. That would seem like a long enough time to really submerge yourself within a new city- this however does not seem to be the case.

ALL the guests that attended the party were from Winnipeg. I don't mean that everyone who attended still lives in Winnipeg, but every single person at the party had a serious Winnipeg connection.

Doesn't this seem strange to you? Well it did to me!!

Every time I say to someone that I am from Winnipeg they have this look on their face as if they feel sorry for me, well let me tell you I am very proud to be from Peg City.

Maybe we don't have the fancy subway or the endless rows of shops and restaurants or the professional sports teams or the dense population but what we do have that many other cities don't (including Toronto) is the connectivity. The connectivity on a personal level. If I meet anyone who is from Winnipeg or has family there I automatically take to them more and feel an instant connection.

No matter how long I live in Toronto, or any other city for that matter I will always be a Pegger at heart.

Dialing In

Getting started is probably the hardest part of writing a blog. Who will read it? Will anyone care? Are you interesting? These are all questions that plagued me and kept me at bay. Some words of advice from my fairy blog mother helped me to take a leap of faith. "Just get involved, become part of the discussion." So I have followed the lead of some wicked chix, Miss Jess and Dark Shades, Bright Lips and started to put myself out there, engaging.
So here it is, my very first blog on my personal blog dedicated to keeping my roots while trying to navigate my way through the "big city".

Hope you enjoy!!
